World War Three

World War Three had ended.

While the free people of a united world held parties, burned bonfires, and kissed complete strangers, Jack sat alone in the grass above the chalk cliffs of Dover. He stared across the channel, where the devastated remains of Europe smouldered.

People would soon rebuild. New Europe would be, in six years, the vibrant centre of a thriving post-war economy. Earth was changed forever.

They would rebuild, but they couldn't bring back those who had died. Jack thought of the soldiers he had known, men and women, beautiful and brave, and he mourned his own dead.
