Recalled to Life

Life had no hold on the UNIT prisoners. Death lingered in the air, out of reach but never far away. Toshiko wondered why she was still breathing. She wondered what the point was: her brain had slowed to a stop. This was death. She had somehow drowned in darkness.

Then the cell door opened and Captain Jack's light dazzled her.

She'd forgotten the sound of a human voice, even her own. She'd forgotten what a smile looked like, or how to make one. She was a living corpse. Captain Jack was life-energy personified.

He offered her something. Hope?

No. Resurrection.
