The Hand

The Doctor's hand glowed.

Shrugging on his coat, Jack crossed the Hub. The hand was all he had, physically, of the Doctor. Excitement charged his nerves.

Then he heard it: the TARDIS. He associated that sound with adventure, love and happiness; with the certainty for once in his life that he was with the people he wanted to be with, doing the right things. Living at last the life he was meant to live.

He smiled. He'd waited one hundred and forty years, through terrestrial wars, loves, losses, and pain. It all culminated in this moment.

The Doctor was back.
