Dalek

Daleks brought death. Wholesale slaughter to billions. Funny thing, though: for Jack, they brought immortality.

He could remember it vividly, his last desperate gunfight on the Game Station. He'd had no hope of survival. Honourable death in an honourable war. It was worth it.

Instead, now, he could not be killed. A Dalek had somehow opened the door to eternal life. Not deliberately, Jack was sure, but it had happened, and he silently thanked them for their role. Bastards.

Since that day, Jack had never seen a Dalek, and suspected he never would.

He wondered if there was a connection.
